Ruling parties seek a week’s time to address 5 points demands of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N)

Jul 7, 2017-

Ruling parties on Friday sought a week to address the five-point demands of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) in order to create an environment for the party to take part in third phase of local level polls, provincial and federal elections.

In a meeting with RJP-N leaders at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar  on Friday evening, the top leaders of the ruling parties conveyed that all political efforts will be undertaken to address the demands of the RJP-N immediately.

This is the first official interaction between the ruling parties and RJP-N leaders after the talks were suspended before the second phase of local level elections.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is struggling to expand his Cabinet, also wants to hold talks with other political parties represented in the Parliament apart from the CPN-UML in a bid to secure the two-third votes for endorsing the constitution amendment Bill.

The tone of RJP-N leaders at Friday’s meeting was little bit softer and accommodative than the previous meetings, said the ruling parties leaders after the meeting.

They told the ruling parties leaders that some kind of political ventilation is needed for them to join the next round of polls to convince the ground and their political constituencies while urging the ruling parties leaders not to delay political consultations to fulfil their demands as they also need a lot for polls preparations.

By the mid of this month, the ruling alliance has assured that they will do all necessary homework to garner a two-third majority to approve the constitution amendment proposal.

They have assured to increase the numbers of local units in Province 2 in proportion to the population, withdraw fake cases against the Madhesi people charged during the Madhes movements, and declare martyrs to those killed during the agitation, and provide compensation to the injured.
