3 dead, 3 went missing in separate landslides in Baglung

Three persons have died after three houses were buried by two separate landslides that occurred at Dhorpatan Municipality and Nisikhola Rural Municipality in Baglung on Friday.

According to the police, Prakash Kami, 53, of Dhorpatan Municipality-5, was killed when his house was swept away by the landslide triggered by incessant rainfall.

Likewise, Maniman Chantyal, 65, of Nisikhola 2 and another elederly of Bhuldi, Nisikhola-1 were killed during the landlside.

Meanwhile, three family members of Chantyal have been missing after the landslide debris buried them and efforts are underway to rescue them alive.

However, Dhorpatan Police Station Sub-Inspector Narayan Sharma said that there is little chance that the buried individuals survived the disaster.



Sub-Inspector Sharma further informed that Chantyal’s wife Nandakali, 63, daughter Gita, 22 and daughter-in-law Bindu, 22, were still trapped under the rubble.

Nisikhola Rural Municipality Chairman Taranath Poudel informed that the landslide has swept away around one dozen houses in the area and the residents have taken shelter at their neighbour’s houses. He further informed that the landslide has also caused damage to the canal of Nisikhola Second Micro Hydropower Project after which around 1,000 households are reeling under electricity shortage.
